The American Music Therapy Association uses "clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship," (AMTA, 2016). Considering depression, music is the language of the soul. For a person suffering with depression, much can be said about the legitimacy of their experiences. Licensed counselors can help people work through and process their thoughts and feelings, and address chemical imbalances if necessary. Music is an added spark that can jump start an individual receptiveness to treatment, and may incite a change in demeanor altogether.

ANASAZI Foundation, (2016). Therapeutic Approach. Retrieved from http://www.anasazi.org/therapeuticapproach.html
The ANASAZI Foundation educates troubled teens/individuals "Through a primitive living experience and a philosophy that invites healing at the hands of nature, to effect a change of heart—a change in one’s whole way of walking in the world." Their "Therapeutic approach is a holistic, bio-psychosocial-spiritual approach to treatment," (Anasazi foundation, 2016). Nature is anything but boring, if you know how to live off the land. Trouble is, today no one knows about the roots that forges societies that exist the world over today. In dealing with depression, how one views the self and the world they're connected to is an important aspect of their approach. In everyday life we get self-absorbed, and when needs are left unmet, it's easy to compare with others or blame because "what we need" is all around us. In the wilderness however, the land will not treat an upset person any differently and a depressed person. This approach is useful because it solidifies what things need to change, and it's not the outer world.

The Autism Speaks Organization employees the therapeutic value of video gaming. This organization is teaming up with developers to "help children and young adults with autism improve brain function and motor skills," (Autism Speaks Inc., 2016). Depression appears to be rampant in ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) because it is hard to read children who have it. Taking advantage of their attention through digital means can at least ensure they are engaged in something that is purposed to develop cognitive and motor functions. Advocates here would encourage that sufferers should seek the advice of an expert as they oriented toward managing healthy lifestyles for the sake of the children. Parents with depression, for example, would do well to accept the advocates counsel if they are clinically depressed. It would be understandable when your child is "autistic," but that just means there are greater opportunities to be of help.
